Aiste Callaghan
MLM Founder
Hello, my name is Aiste. My current occupations are; - President at the Lithuanian Chamber of Commerce in the UK and Client Director at Pine Consulting Company.
One of my greatest jobs and achievements is being a mum to 4 amazing children.
I moved to the UK 21 years ago, went to a secondary school in North London, achieved Real Estate Development Bachelor’s Degree in Liverpool John Moore’s University and have been living in the UK ever since.
As a child and a teenager, I found, that my interest in Lithuania reduced significantly. I was not interested speaking in Lithuanian nor learning anything else about it. I did not have an opportunity to attend a Lithuanian school and there was no interest for it amongst my peers either. As the years went on, I found myself questioning, where I am from, who am I and what are my origins and what do I want to do with that information?
My family is multilingual, my husband is English, that’s the main language we use at home. The biggest challenge for mixed families is to set the right example for your children, use both cultures, set the right values and give your children an opportunity to speak both languages.
“Matildos Lituanistine Mokykla” school was established by a mum for families. I am a parent like you all, succeeding and sometimes failing, to bring my Lithuanian children in the United Kingdom, with all the challenges that I face.
MLM hopes to help children understand what a huge privilege it is to grow up with two languages and being multilingual.
Izabele
MLM Founder
Everyday Izabele wants to learn more Lithuanian words. She tries to put sentences together to be able to speak to her grandparents. She wants to have more Lithuanian friends whom she can learn with together.
At school she teaches kids how to say certain words and at home she asks her daddy to stroke her back in Lithuanian language. Her daddy had no choice, but learn a few words to understand her, because he found it very important to encourage her to continue speaking Lithuanian.
Izabele is 5 and she is in year one. She can’t wait to meet all the children at MLM school and share this fun and excited journey with them.
