Matilda Lithuanian School: new school year, new adventures!

Have you heard the good news? Matilda Lithuanian School, which opened its doors in Newbury a year ago, is getting ready for an even bigger party this year! We're moving to a new, more spacious and even more inspiring home Horris Hill Private School, Newbury. https://www.horrishill.com

There's not only science, but also lots of adventures!

What's new this year?

  • A paradise for the little ones: Kindergarten children (1.5 - 3 years old) will have their own cosy and safe kingdom, where they will learn Lithuanian by playing and exploring.
  • Chapel at the school: Here, together with the Lithuanian Church in London, we will celebrate our most beautiful traditions and create unforgettable moments.
  • A world of fun and discovery: The private school grounds are a real treasure hunter's paradise! Here you will find a swimming pool for swimming, a cinema and theatre room for creative work, a gym for energy, an open-air cinema under the stars, and even 26 hectares of greenery for adventurers!

When does the fun begin?

  • 7 September: The Grand Opening! Animation shows, live music, distinguished guests and a trampoline for children - a celebration not to be missed!
  • 28 September: Eimutis Kvoščiauskas - a famous Lithuanian actor and the TV show "World Lithuania" is coming to visit! There will be extremely interesting lessons and unforgettable moments.
  • 26 October: Fr Peter from London will lead a lesson and Mass in our chapel.
  • 10 November: "The performance of the Witches Theatre will take you to the land of fairy tales.
  • 14 December: Christmas lights to warm hearts.
  • 11 January: We will commemorate the Day of the Defenders of Freedom and honour their bravery.
  • 15 February: We will celebrate Independence Day and watch a Lithuanian film in our cinema.
  • 8 March: The "Don't Travel" exhibition and the Kaziukas Fair at the Newbury Cultural Centre - showcasing our talents and creativity.
  • 21 June: Midsummer celebration with songs, games and a bonfire!

"Matilda Lithuanian School opened with the idea - "mama - for mama". I am a mother like all of them, facing the challenges of living and raising children in the UK. I aim to help children and parents find the motivation to learn and speak Lithuanian. I also want to encourage children to develop an interest in Lithuania and their roots, to feel confident and to understand the great advantage of being multilingual and Lithuanian. I really hope that we will grow together with the children, with their parents, and create a Lithuanian community in Berkshire County, which does not exist yet. It's not just a school, it's a community," says Aistė Calaghan, the school's founder.

Matilda's Lithuanian school is not only about education, but also about friendship, creativity and unforgettable moments! So we invite everyone to join our family and create a beautiful future together!
