The first school Christmas light goes on

I must admit that we, the teachers, and our pupils were excited.

Since the opening of Matilda Lithuanian School, we have not only been diligently studying, but also responsibly preparing for the holidays, fostering traditions and Lithuanian identity.

Our Christmas lights were performed by pupils aged 3 to 11, and were watched and enjoyed by parents, relatives and children from neighbouring towns who are not Lithuanian. We aim to introduce Lithuanian culture to other children and their parents, and we were delighted to see such a large turnout - 32 children and 85 guests in total.

We opened the event by singing Lithuanian Christmas songs - one of which is the cheerful and well-known "Din di lin". It was sung not only by the children, but also by the audience.

We couldn't help singing "Merry Christmas", which was our wish to all those present.

Our pupils presented the play "Turnip". We chose it for a reason. First of all, it was with the aim of rewarding each pupil with a role - the different characters in the story were particularly suitable for the children of our school. We didn't offend anyone. Secondly, because of the moral of the story - it teaches about community, help and friendship.

After the play, Santa Claus and his helper Snow White came to the children in their sleigh. The children had a lot of fun and the hall was full of laughter. After the fun games, Santa and Snow White gave out presents to the children. Can you imagine how much joy there was?

After Santa and Snow White run off to join the other children, our children are treated to a trampoline and a fun disco outside. Of course the DJ played only Lithuanian music.

Parents strongly contributed to the celebration and the promotion of Lithuanian traditions. Thank you very much. They cooked and later treated everyone to Lithuanian dishes. We tasted home-made white mishraine, crispy shakochi, kūčiukai with poppy seeds, crispy fried bread and other delicious dishes.

On behalf of the school, thank you to everyone who came and contributed to our beautiful celebration. For more impressions from our celebration, please see in the photo gallery
